Privacy Policy
Last updated: 8 October 2026
SFamily is a family and friends safety app. It exists so that the people you choose can know you are safe, and can reach you quickly if you are not. That purpose only works if you trust it with some fairly personal information — most of all, where you are. This page explains exactly what we collect, why, who else ever sees it, and how long we keep it.
SFamily is operated by Sfamily, Wadala East, sangam nagar, Sp road, House no 32, mumbai, Maharashtra 400037. If you have a question about anything here, write to ownerabhi@sfamily.co.
The short version
- We collect what the app needs to do its job, and nothing for advertising.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we never have.
- There are no advertising networks and no third-party analytics or tracking libraries in this app.
- Your location is shared only with people you have added, and only while you have chosen to share it. You can stop at any moment.
- You can delete your account from inside the app, at any time, without asking us.
Location, including in the background
This is the most sensitive thing SFamily handles, so it gets its own section.
SFamily collects location data even when the app is closed or not in use, so that your family can see you on the map while you are sharing, your SOS carries where you are, your family is told when you arrive, and your saved places know when you come and go.
Specifically, we collect:
- Your current position, its accuracy, your speed and direction of travel, and whether your device is moving.
- Your device's battery level, so the people watching a journey can tell the difference between "they have stopped moving" and "their phone died".
- A history of positions while you are sharing, so a journey can be drawn as a line rather than a single dot.
- Arrivals at and departures from places you have saved, such as home, school or work.
You control all of it. Location sharing is off until you turn it on, you choose who can see it and for how long, and stopping is a single tap. Turning sharing off stops collection; it does not merely hide it. You can also withdraw the permission entirely in your phone's settings, and the app will keep working without the features that need it.
What else we collect, and why
Your account
- Phone number — this is how you sign in. We send a one-time code to it to confirm it is yours.
- Name, username and profile photo — so the people in your circle recognise you.
- Email address — optional, used only to contact you about your account.
- Date of birth, gender, blood group and a short bio — all optional. Blood group exists because it is worth a first responder seeing on an emergency card.
Safety features
- Check-ins and safety alarms — when you armed one, whether you answered, and which of your contacts were told.
- SOS alerts — when you raised one, where you were, and who was notified.
- Emergency message and SOS PIN — the PIN is stored only as a cryptographic hash. We cannot read it or recover it for you.
- Emergency voice notes — if you record one with an alarm, we store the audio so it can be played to the people you chose. Your microphone is used only while you are actively recording.
Chats, posts and stories
- Messages and attachments you send, so they can be delivered and so both sides can read the conversation afterwards.
- Posts, stories, likes and tags, shown according to the privacy settings on your account.
- Who you follow and who is in your family circle, which is what decides who can see what.
Your device
- A push notification token, so we can reach your phone for an SOS, an alarm or a message.
- Device type, model and app version, to send the right notification format and to diagnose faults.
- The IP address of your last sign-in, for account security.
Reminders
Reminders you create, who they are for, and whether they were completed. These are scheduled by your own phone; the app stores them so they survive a reinstall and so a family member you assigned one to can see it.
What we do not do
- No advertising. There are no ad networks in this app and your data is never used to target advertising, by us or anyone else.
- No analytics or tracking libraries. We do not embed third-party analytics, attribution or behavioural tracking tools.
- No selling or renting of personal information, and no sharing of it for anyone else's marketing.
- No reading your chats to build a profile of you.
- No location sharing with anyone you did not choose.
Who else handles your data
We use a small number of service providers to run SFamily. They process data on our instructions and for no purpose of their own.
- Amazon Web Services — hosts our servers and stores photos, videos and voice notes. Files are stored privately and served through links that expire after a few hours.
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging — delivers push notifications to your device.
- Google Maps Platform — draws the map, searches for places and calculates routes.
- MSG91 — sends the one-time sign-in code by SMS to your phone number.
- Our email provider — sends account emails.
We will also disclose information if we are legally required to, or where we believe in good faith that it is necessary to prevent serious harm to someone. This is a safety app; if a life is at risk we will act.
How long we keep things
- Location history: 90 days. Individual position readings are deleted automatically after ninety days.
- Visits to your saved places: 1 year.
- Stories: about 24 hours, then deleted automatically.
- Unattached uploads — a file picked but never sent — are removed within hours.
- Messages, posts, check-ins and alarms are kept while your account is open, because they are the record you and your family rely on.
- Backups are kept on a rolling 30-day cycle and are used only for disaster recovery.
Deleting your account
You can delete your SFamily account at any time, yourself, from Menu → Settings → Delete account in the app. You do not need to ask us and we will not try to talk you out of it.
Our Delete Your Account page explains in full what happens: what is removed immediately, what is retained and why, and how to request deletion if you have already uninstalled the app. Please read it before you delete, because it cannot be undone.
Children and family accounts
SFamily is designed for families, and a family includes children. An account can be marked as belonging to a child, which is how the app knows to keep that person inside their family circle rather than exposing them to strangers.
A child's account must be set up and supervised by a parent or legal guardian, who is responsible for the choices made on it — above all, who can see that child's location. If you believe a child has created an account without a guardian's involvement, contact us at ownerabhi@sfamily.co and we will remove it.
We do not knowingly collect information from children for any purpose other than operating the safety features their family has chosen to use, and we never use it for advertising.
Keeping it safe
- All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit.
- Passwords and your SOS PIN are stored only as cryptographic hashes.
- Photos, videos and voice notes are stored privately and reached only through short-lived signed links.
- Your sign-in token is held in your device's secure storage.
No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise. If we ever discover a breach affecting your personal information, we will tell you.
Your choices and rights
- See and correct your information — your profile is editable in the app at any time.
- Turn features off — location sharing, discovery by people nearby, read receipts, last-seen and online status are each individually controllable.
- Withdraw permissions — location, notifications, microphone and exact alarms can all be revoked in your phone's settings.
- Delete your account — see above.
- Ask for a copy of your data, or ask us to erase something specific, by writing to ownerabhi@sfamily.co. We will respond within 30 days.
Where your data is held
Your information is stored on servers in [REGION]. Our service providers may process it in other countries; where they do, they are bound by contract to protect it to the standard described here.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that materially affects what we collect or who sees it, we will say so in the app before the change takes effect. The date at the top always shows when this page last changed.
